Mikaela’s first experience working in the health and wellness field was as a group fitness instructor at Aquatic and Fitness Centres in South Delta in 2007.
Many of her clients lived with arthritis or other conditions that made being active painful. She enjoyed being able to help them live more active lives. Still, she found that she desired the ability to impact people’s lives to a greater extent – not just by helping increase their fitness levels but by relieving their pain, which she could not do as a group fitness instructor.
Mikaela found she could accomplish pain reduction and symptom management as a West Coast College of Massage Therapy graduate. She has served as a West Coast College of Massage Therapy faculty member as a teaching assistant and primary instructor in Regional and Spinal Orthopedics. Additionally, Mikaela has gained extensive experience working with athletes, including runners, cyclists (MTB, road, gravel), swimmers, boxers, MMA, gymnasts, rowers, orthopedic rehabilitation (joint replacements, ligament injuries and tears, chronic dislocations), chronic pain (migraines/headaches, fibromyalgia, osteo or rheumatoid arthritis), and general tension.
Mikaela’s goal with each of her clients is to provide the best evidence-based care using various techniques. Her studies in Anatomy Trains fascial release techniques lead her towards a more active treatment style that requires client participation. She also utilizes more typical Swedish massage, trigger point release, joint manipulation, and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) techniques when indicated. She also tries to inform and educate clients about their condition and its causes, what she hopes to achieve through her techniques and a few simple things they can do to help speed their recovery.
